Smoldering Attic Fire Displaces Tenant at Charles Apartments in Marshfield

MARSHFIELD, WI (February 6, 2024) – Marshfield Fire and Rescue responded to a smoke incident at the Charles Apartments located at 103 W 2nd Street on Monday afternoon.

Firefighters were dispatched around 3:34 pm after reports of smoke coming from the attic. Upon arrival, crews observed light white smoke emanating from a roof vent and traced it to a smoldering area within the cellulose insulation.

Firefighters accessed the affected area by removing the ceiling of apartment 314, which sustained smoke and water damage in the process. The lone occupant of the apartment was displaced due to the incident but unharmed.

The fire itself was limited to the attic insulation and did not spread to other parts of the building. There were no injuries reported, and all other residents were allowed to return to their apartments after ventilation

The cause of the fire remains under investigation. The Marshfield Police Department assisted at the scene.
