MARSHFIELD, WI (OnFocus) – Soup or Socks Food Pantry and Clothes Closet is reaching out to the Marshfield community for urgent help in restocking critical supplies. As the need for services continues to grow, the pantry is experiencing significant shortages of essential items, including food and hygiene products.

“We are currently low on most things,” said Lindsay Behounek, Director of Soup or Socks. “Canned stew is always in great need, along with baby wipes, cereal, mac & cheese, and cleaning supplies. October is National Dental Hygiene Month, so adult and kids’ toothpaste and toothbrushes are needed.”

The pantry’s increased need for supplies stems from two key factors.

“First, we serve significantly more people this year than in 2023. Based on the last three months averages, we served 64 more people from 27 households more per month in 2024 than in 2023,” explained Behounek. “Add to that the rising cost of food. Not only does it cost more to keep our shelves fully stocked, but the income of the families we help and our generous donors doesn’t go as far. A generous donation of $100 doesn’t buy what it did even two years ago.”

How to Donate

Soup or Socks offers several ways to donate and make a difference in the lives of those facing food insecurity:

  • Food Donations: Drop off items at Soup or Socks’ location at 200 S. Lincoln Ave, Marshfield, during regular business hours.
  • Monetary Donations: Mail checks to PO Box 146, Marshfield, WI 54449, or donate electronically through PayPal via their website www.souporsocks.org.
  • Host a Food Drive: Groups interested in hosting a food drive are encouraged to reach out for suggestions on the greatest current needs. Contact Soup or Socks by calling 715-387-1796 or emailing Lindsay at [email protected].

In August 2024 alone, Soup or Socks provided food assistance to 286 people from 118 households. The Clothes Closet served 19 individuals, offering much-needed clothing to those in need.

“We are truly grateful to the donors and volunteers who keep Soup or Socks going and believe so strongly in this nonprofit’s mission,” Behounek said. “We truly couldn’t do it without them. I also encourage people to follow us on social media for updates on our needs, upcoming events, and fundraisers.”

Soup or Socks is excited to launch new programs that will help raise awareness of their mission. “As an organization, we do amazing work, and I want everyone to know about it,” Behounek added.

Soup or Socks is located at 200 S Lincoln Ave (back of First Presbyterian Church) in Marshfield.
