ABBOTSFORD – The Spencer boys basketball team climbed back to the .500 mark for the season with a 71-53 road win over Abbotsford on Monday night at Abbotsford High School.

The Rockets are now 6-6 this season, while Abbotsford drops to 2-11.

Spencer’s Austin Bacon was nearly unstoppable for Spencer, making 11 of 13 shots from the field, including going a perfect 3-for-3 from both the 3-point line and the free throw line, to finish with a team-high 28 points.

Brett Kasch added 12 points, and Nate Karau had 12 points and 10 rebounds for the Rockets.

Cade Faber scored 29 points for the Falcons.

Spencer will play at first-place Marshfield Columbus Catholic on Thursday. The game will be the nightcap to a wrestling-basketball doubleheader celebrating the life of the late Army Staff Sgt. Joe Altmann.

Altmann, a Columbus Catholic graduate, was a member of the first Spencer/Columbus co-op football team. He died serving his country in Afghanistan on Christmas Day 2011.

All proceeds from the game will be donated to the Joe Altmann Memorial Scholarship Fund, which benefits graduating seniors with college scholarships, as well as scholarships to attend Columbus Catholic High School.

The Spencer/Columbus wrestling match against Neillsville/Greenwood/Loyal begins at 5:30 p.m., with the boys basketball game between Spencer and Columbus starting at approximately 7:15 p.m.
