In a game of long touchdowns, the Spencer/Columbus Catholic Rockets using a strong running game to hold off the Cadott Hornets 28-22.
Spencer/Columbus would not attempt a pass in the game but instead ran the ball 55 times for 425 yards on the game.
After a scoreless first quarter, Austin Bacon would run in a touchdown from 49 yards out, Spencer would miss the extra point making it 6-0.
Spencer would get another touchdown just over four minutes later as Bacon would run it in from 65 yards out, Eden Jacobson would tack on the two-point conversion making it 14-0.
Cadott would answer just over a minute later as Brady Spaeth would get a 62 yard touchdown run, Josh Briggs would run in the two-point conversion cutting SC’s lead to 14-8, which would be the halftime score.
After halftime, Cole Timmler would run one in from 24 yards out for another S/C touchdown, Jacobson would get the two-point conversion run extending SC’s lead to 22-8.
Cadott would respond late in the third quarter as Briggs would get a 10 yard touchdown run and run in the two-point conversion cutting SC’s lead to 22-16.
Spencer would respond in the fourth quarter as Jacobson would run it in from 10 yards out, but could not convert on the two-point attempt, extending the lead to 28-16.
Cadott would again cut into the lead with 3:08 left in the game on a 23 yard touchdown pass from Mason Poehls to Gavin Tegels, the two point try was no good, cutting the Rockets lead to 28-22.
Spencer/Columbus would hold on after that and have become playoff eligible.
“Cadott played a well-fought game, we are very proud of our guy’s effort and determination,” said Rocket Head Coach Jason Gorst.
Gorst also praised his defesne and especially Carter Casperson who lead the team in tackles with 7.5 including a tackle for loss.
