SPORTSDESK – For the second time in 10 days, Cloverbelt East rivals, the Spencer Rockets and the Greenwood Indians tangled. On April 24th in Greenwood, the Rockets got past the Indians 10-2. Coming in to this game, the Rockets were just three days off their first conference loss in over four years at the hands of the Neillsville Warriors. The Indians split a doubleheader the day prior with those same Warriors.

The Indians scored first in the top half of the first after a hit by Lexi Oestreich drove in pitcher Kaylee Learman. The Rockets fired right back in the bottom half of the opening frame as Sadie Mercier came across the plate on a hit by catcher, Lexi Baehr. In the third inning it was Oestreich again driving in Learman to put the Indians up 2-1. The Rockets again were up to the task in the bottom of the third, plating Ariah Schuh and Lexi Baehr. Then things unraveled for the Indians in the bottom of the fourth inning. With two outs and Rockets on second and third, Baehr lifted a routine fly ball to left field that was dropped allowing both runners to cross the plate and the Rockets with a commanding 5-2 lead.

The Rockets again scored two in their home half of the fifth inning and the Indians scratched across one in the top of the 6th. In the top of the 7th, Rocket pitcher Tiffany Meinders took control of the situation inducing two ground balls and striking out the final Indian batter to give the Rockets a 7-3 win. Meinders finished the game with nine strikeouts and gave up two earned runs.

Next up for the Rockets is a home double header vs the Owen-Withee Blackhawks on May 9th, 4pm.

Next up for the Indians is a home double header vs the Loyal Greyhounds on May 9th, 4pm.
