SPENCER, WI (OnFocus) – Spencer Youth Recreations, Inc. (SYR), a non-profit organization dedicated to promoting physical activity, health, and wellness among the youth in Spencer, Wisconsin, is proud to announce the completion of their most significant project to date – the Lunar Landing Playground Project at Spencer Elementary School. The project, made possible by a generous $134,066 Gametime Cares grant awarded in September 2022, is set to transform the community’s park system and enrich the lives of children in the area.
SYR has been working diligently for the past 18 years to provide quality opportunities for local youth in sports and recreational activities. Over the years, the organization’s volunteers have raised and donated over $275,000 to more than 100 projects and causes, directly benefiting the youth of Spencer.
The Lunar Landing Playground Project represents a landmark achievement for SYR. The playground (when completely finished) will feature a large, inclusive play structure that includes nine slides, numerous climbing apparatuses, and diverse learning panels. This state-of-the-art facility will become one of the largest playgrounds in the area, joining the ranks of esteemed playgrounds in Wausau, Plover, and Wisconsin Rapids.
Phase 1 of the project, involving the order placement for equipment, was successfully completed by November 1, 2022. In early March 2023, SYR received delivery of the equipment for Phase 2, which entailed the installation of the equipment, further solidifying the dream of a vibrant, engaging playground for the community.
