St. Cat’s Holds On for State Title

Racine St. Catherine’s held off a late comeback attempt from Baldwin-Woodville to win their 2nd WIAA Football State Championship.

The Angels would take a 20-0 lead on three touchdown passes from Eddie Vinson Jr. to Lamont Hamilton of 59, 23, 49 yards.

Baldwin-Woodville would get one back on a Gavin Sell 26-yard touchdown run.

On the issuing kickoff Hamilton would return the kick 83 yards for a touchdown to make the score 26-8 with 6:33 to go in the 3rd.

Then Baldwin-Woodville would turn it on, getting a touchdown on a pass from Sell to Brody Everts to cut the lead to 26-16.

The Blackhawks would get another touchdown on a Taden Holdorf 1-yard TD run, making it a one score game.

The Blackhawks would get a stop and put together a drive but a desperation heave would be intercepted with 28 seconds left.

Hamilton led the way for the Angels catching 4 balls for 155 yards and 3 TDs, also ran 8 times for 39 yards. Vinson was 7/14 183 yards and 3 TDs, he also ran 8 times for 36 yards.

Baldwin-Woodville was led by Snell, who ran 28 times for 168 yards and a TD, he completed 5/10 passes for 53 yards and a TD.

The Angels won their 2nd State Title, Baldwin Woodville was making their 5th state appearance and 3rd runner-up to go with two State Championships.
