Dr. Andrew Huang, Aspirus radiation oncologist, recently described the many benefits to patients offered by the new Varian TrueBeam Linear Accelerator at Aspirus Cancer Care – Wisconsin Rapids.

Submitted to OnFocus – WISCONSIN RAPIDS – Patients of Aspirus Cancer Care – Wisconsin Rapids are benefiting from the very latest in radiation therapy technology.

In January, the center began treating patients with the Varian TrueBeam Linear Accelerator, an innovative, noninvasive radiation treatment for cancer. The TrueBeam offers a wide range of options for treating tumors, including those that are more complex.

“The TrueBeam is one of today’s most advanced forms of radiation therapy and offers new hope for people with cancer,” said Dr. Andrew Huang, Aspirus radiation oncologist.

The TrueBeam has sophisticated image-guided radiotherapy to deliver precise doses of radiation with exceptional accuracy. It generates three-dimensional images to target the tumor with greater precision and protect nearby healthy tissue and organs. The TrueBeam also requires shorter treatment times, so patients have less interruption to their day.

“This new technology is an example of how the Aspirus cancer program combines compassion with advanced treatments,” said Dr. Huang. “We walk alongside our patients through their entire journey.”

Keeping patient comfort top-of-mind, the TrueBeam was designed so the radiation therapist can remain in close contact with the patient at all times and can even play music through the system during treatment.

“Aspirus believes in keeping healthcare local as much as possible,” said Jamie Babbitts, Aspirus service line administrator of oncology. “This investment is truly an investment in the communities we serve.”
