Stratford and Newman Catholic Split in Pair of Marawood One-Run Batttles

Stratford and Newman split a doublheader in Marawood Conference action. The Tigers came back for a 6-5 win in game one and Newman held on in game two to earn a 5-4 decision.

In game one, the Tigers trailed 5-4 heading into the bottom of the sixth before plating a run in each of the final two innings to take the win.

Tess Berg homered for Stratford. Lexi Christopherson and Gracie Schmidt had two hits apiece.

Laney Pankratz gave up 7 hits and struck out 7, giving up 5 earned runs.

Molly Merrill homered for Newman. Lily Shield had three hits and scored two runs, and Alyssa Jankowski took the loss, scattering 8 hits and striking out 5, giving up two earned runs.

Newman took charge in the second game, leading 5-2 after six innings before the Tigers’ comeback in the seventh stopped short.

Jankowski scattered 8 hits and struck out two in the win for Newman, giving up three earned runs.

Maria Christophersen was 2X3 with a double and two runs scored for the Cardinals.

Tess Berg was 3X4 with a double and triple. Tria Tubbs had two hits, including a double for the Tigers.

Tubbs took the loss, giving up four hits and striking out 7, surrendering 1 earned run.
