Stratford, Auburndale combine for dozen first-team selections to 2018 All-Marawood Conference Football Team

Stratford had five players earning eight first-team spots and four Auburndale players were also named to the first team of the 2018 All-Marawood Conference Football Team, as voted on by the conference coaches following the season.

Stratford finished in second place in the Marawood Conference with a 5-1 record and ended up 11-3 overall and losing in the WIAA Division 5 state championship game to Fond du Lac St. Mary’s Springs.

Auburndale reached Level 2 of the Division 6 playoffs before losing to Abbotsford, and finished 5-6 overall and 3-3 in the conference.

Stratford seniors Dylan Schoenherr and Okley Wrensch, and junior Ben Barten were first-team selections on both sides of the ball.

Schoenherr was a unanimous choice at both offensive line and defensive end, Barten was a unanimous first-team pick at offensive line and was also chosen at defensive line, and Wrensch was a unanimous first-team selection at receiver and was picked at defensive back as well.

Barten, who has committed to play at the University of Wisconsin in 2020, was named the Marawood Conference Lineman of the Year.

Stratford’s other two first-team selections were running back Kade Ehrike and punter Chase Flink.

Wrensch led the Tigers in receiving yards with 408 yards and touchdown receptions with seven, while Ehrike topped the conference with 2,051 yards and 30 rushing touchdowns, and also led Stratford in receptions with 30, for 399 yards and three scores.

Barten was the Tigers’ leading tackler with 88, including 22 for loss and six quarterback sacks.

Auburndale had two unanimous first-team picks, including wide receiver Dylan Paun and inside linebacker Aaron Marth. Offensive lineman Wyatt Fowler and defensive lineman Travis Gotz were also named to the first team for the Apaches.

Paun led Auburndale in receiving with 20 catches for 326 yards and nine touchdowns.

Edgar quarterback/defensive back Karson Butt was picked as the Marawood Conference Back of the Year.

Butt threw for 1,256 yards and 12 touchdowns, ran for 387 yards and 11 touchdowns, and had 81 tackles and two interceptions defensively.
