MAUSTON – The Stratford baseball team opened up its 2019 season by splitting a pair of games at the Woodside Sports Complex on Friday.
Stratford beat Chequamegon 3-1, and were no-hit and lost to Fond du Lac St. Mary’s Springs 10-0.
Eli Drexler pitched five strong innings, striking out eight, to earn the win over Chequamegon. Chandler Schmidt struck out five in two innings of relief to earn the save.
Schmidt also had two of Stratford’s five hits and drove in a run in the victory.
Springs blanked the Tigers in the second game as Stratford committed five errors, and three pitchers combined for five walks and 10 runs allowed in six innings before the game ended via the 10-run rule.
Stratford will play Adams-Friendship at Woodside on Saturday.
