Stratford girls basketball uses free throw advantage to beat Assumption

WISCONSIN RAPIDS – The Stratford girls basketball team did just enough to pull out a big road win in Marawood Conference South Division action Tuesday night at Assumption High School.

Despite making just 9 of 39 shots from the field, the Tigers were able to overcome a 19-17 halftime deficit by holding Assumption to 14 points in the second half and won 41-33 to improve to 5-2 overall and 5-1 in the Marawood South this season.

The Tigers made just two baskets in the first half, but made 12 of 15 free throws to hang close. In the second half, Macie Schillinger scored seven of her 10 points, including three of Stratford’s seven field goals, to help the Tigers pull out the victory.

Stratford was 10 of 20 at the free throw line in the second half, but held the Royals to just two made field goals and the Royals were only 5 of 9 on free throws in the second half, and 10 of 20 overall, as they came up short.

Breanna Ackley and Mariah Zawislan each also had 10 points in the win for Stratford.

Maddie Bohn topped the Royals (7-3, 4-2 Marawood South) with 12 points.
