AUBURNDALE – Five Stratford players scored either eight or nine points in a balanced attack and the Tigers won their regular-season finale, beating Auburndale 51-26 in a Marawood Conference South Division girls basketball game Thursday at Auburndale High School.
Mariah Zawislan, Macie Schillinger and Breanna Ackley each scored nine points, and Blaire Lindner and Tanaya Schillinger each had eight for Stratford, which finishes the regular season with a 15-5 record and a 14-2 mark in the Marawood South.
Wausau Newman Catholic topped Edgar 66-48 on Thursday to finish 15-1 in conference play, one game ahead of Stratford for the conference title.
Stratford raced out to a 33-13 lead by halftime to take control early.
Auburndale was held to nine made field goals in the loss. Isabelle Hilber had seven points to lead the Apaches (10-11, 6-9 Marawood South).
Auburndale will play at Edgar on Friday to wrap up its regular season and Marawood South schedule.
Both teams open WIAA playoff action next Friday, Feb. 22. Stratford will host the winner of Tuesday’s game between Altoona and Black River Falls in a Division 3 regional semifinal, while Auburndale will travel to Stevens Point Pacelli for a Division 4 regional semifinal.
