STRATFORD – The Stratford softball team kept its perfect Marawood Conference South Division record intact as it downed Wausau Newman Catholic 9-5 on Tuesday at Hilgemann Field.
The Tigers (4-1, 3-0 Marawood South) survived despite serving up 13 walks to Newman Catholic (0-3 overall and Marawood South).
Stratford led 6-0 after two innings before Newman chipped away. Despite getting only one hit, the Cardinals scored five runs to get to within a run, before the Tigers scored single tallies in their final three at-bats to build a cushion.
Mazie Nagel had three hits and an RBI, and Mariah Zawislan, Paige Kolbeck and Jessamae Rice each had two hits for the Tigers, who had 11 overall.
Stratford plays at Newman on Thursday.
