Abbotsford (OnFocus) – A game that saw 19 first half lead changes and ties saw the visiting Stratford Tigers pull away from Abbotsford in a hard-fought Marawood Conference win, 66-46.
In the first half, the largest lead either team could garner was 5 points, a 23-18 Tigers’ lead with six minutes left. Abbotsford fought back, however, and took a 31-30 lead on a basket by senior Cade Faber with 30 seconds left.
Stratford’s Cade Bruesewitz put the Tigers on top heading into the break when he drained a three-pointer at the buzzer.
As it turned out, Stratford would maintain the lead throughout the second half.
Stratford tried to pull away in the early going of the second half, but the Falcons hung tough. Hunter Soyk and Faber combined for Abby’s first 11 points, and trailed 44-42 with 11:30 left.
Abbtsford’s Faber nominated for Athlete of the Week
The Tigers then dug into their reserves, blitzing their way to the win by outscoring Abby 22-4 the rest of the way.
Cody Miller and Jacob Skroch had 15 points apiece for Stratford.
Faber had 20 points and Soyk added 12 to lead the Falcons.
Faber led Abbotsford with 14 rebounds.
