Update on HWY 97/CTH C Traffic Incident
Four vehicles were involved in a traffic accident which occurred at the intersection of HWY 97 and CTH C in Marathon County on Tuesday, Oct. 29 at 3:20 p.m.
A southbound vehicle pulling a boat trailer and boat on HWY 97 had stopped in traffic to turn east onto CTH C and was struck from behind by a pickup truck. The boat was removed from the trailer on impact and struck a northbound vehicle on HWY 97, landing on the vehicle’s hood and proceeding to the windshield and roof of the vehicle.
The northbound vehicle veered to the left and went down a steep embankment, coming to a stop in a field. Debris from the first collision struck a fourth vehicle which was stopped on CTH C.
The pickup truck driver, a 32-year-old Loyal man, was reportedly distracted and issued a citation by the Marathon County Sheriff’s Department for inattentive driving. The driver of the boat trailer was not injured.
The two occupants of the northbound vehicle, a 62-year-old Marshfield man and a 63 year-old Marshfield woman, were transported to Marshfield Medical Center for treatment of serious injuries.
The fourth vehicle suffered minor damage and neither the driver or the passenger were injured.
