Study Reveals Which States Think About Sex Most, #1-5: Illinois, Nevada, Wyoming, North Carolina, North Dakota
- Illinois leads the ranking of the U.S. most sex-obsessed states, with over 15,300 searches per capita about dating, sex tips, and adult toys.
- Nevada is second with the most single people, 53% of total households.
- In Vermont, residents have the most active sex life, with 1.7 sexual encounters weekly.
A recent study by Lion’s Den analyzed the U.S. states across key factors to identify America’s most sex-obsessed states. The research takes into account online search behavior, sex frequency, number of sex therapists in the state, and single-person household percentage. The final ranking is based on the sex-related Google searches per 100K residents, focusing on the states that demonstrate the highest interest in sex-related content, products, and services.
Here is the summary of the findings:
State | Total Searches | Searches/100K | Weekly Sex Freq. | Single Households |
Illinois | 1.92M | 15,307 | 0.750 | 51% |
Nevada | 236K | 7,362 | 1.020 | 53% |
Wyoming | 37K | 6,295 | 1.340 | 47% |
North Carolina | 684K | 6,229 | 0.740 | 48% |
North Dakota | 47K | 5,945 | 1.090 | 48% |
Utah | 204K | 5,895 | 1.280 | 44% |
Vermont | 38K | 5,847 | 1.700 | 49% |
Colorado | 325K | 5,492 | 0.420 | 48% |
South Dakota | 50K | 5,368 | 1.140 | 48% |
Montana | 60K | 5,243 | 1.100 | 48% |

The U.S. state most obsessed with sex is Illinois, with 15,307 searches about dating, sex tips, and adult toys per 100K residents. Overall, the state looks up sex-related information over 1.9 million times a month, and half of Illinois’ population lives alone.
Nevada takes 2nd place on the list of America’s most sex-obsessed states, with 7,362 searches, over 2 times less than in Illinois. The state has the most single people, with 53% of the population living by themselves. At the same time, Nevada residents are more sex-active, with at least 1 sexual encounter weekly.
Wyoming ranks third, with 6,295 sex-related searches. Wyoming residents are second most sex-active in the ranking, with 1.3 average sex encounters each week. The number of single people here is slightly lower than in Illinois or Nevada, at 47%.
North Carolina follows closely with fourth place and 6,229 searches. Total sex-related searches sum up to 684K monthly. The state also has extensive health support for intimacy-related issues, with 116 sex therapists and 124 sexual health clinics.
North Dakota is fifth in the ranking of the U.S. most sex-obsessed states, with 5,945 searches about sex toys, intimacy, and dating. The most popular search theme is “best sex positions,” gathering over 16.8K queries monthly. The frequency of sex in the state is similar to Nevada, with 1 sexual encounter a week.
Utah holds sixth place at 5,895 searches. The total monthly searches for sex-related questions in the state amount to 204K. Utah’s residents also have active sex lives, with 1.2 sexual encounters a week, while only 44% of people here live alone.
In seventh place is Vermont, with 5,847 searches, closely following Utah. Vermont residents lead the most active sex life, with 1.7 weekly sexual encounters, the highest rate in the top 10. Vermont also has a supportive medical system, with 3 sexual health clinics for every 100K residents.
Colorado ranks eighth, where residents search for sex-related questions 5,492 times. With a total of 325K searches, Colorado residents are most interested in information about sex positions and sex toys, with 96.9K and 62.9K, respectively.
South Dakota is ninth, with 5,368 searches. The residents of the state lead active sex lives with 1.1 sexual encounters weekly. South Dakota also has a large share of single people, with 48% of residents living alone.
Montana closes the ranking of America’s most sex-obsessed states with tenth place and 5,243 searches. The frequency of sexual encounters in Montana is similar to South and North Dakota, but Montana has more sex therapists providing better expert guidance for sex-related questions.
Pete Potenzini, Marketing Director at Lion’s Den, commented on the study: “The growing digital exploration of sexuality across America reveals important gaps in accessible safety information, with the most sexually curious regions often having the least comprehensive sex education resources. While Americans increasingly seek sexual wellness information online, converting this curiosity into consistent safety practices remains a critical public health challenge that requires culturally sensitive approaches tailored to regional attitudes.”
