(OnFocus) Residents are invited to change their porch light to red on May 4-5 for International Firefighters’ Day, which honors the commitment and sacrifices of firefighters everywhere.
“It is important to recognize and remember what the firefighters do and why we are here. The fire department is here to serve the community and do our part to make life a little better here in Marshfield,” said Fire Chief Scott Owen, Marshfield Fire and Rescue Department.
The red lights offer a visual show of support for local fire departments.
“Many times, we are, for the lack of a better term, forgotten as we are not out patrolling the streets every day like our counterparts in law enforcement are,” Owen said. “We are here, preparing and training to be the best we can possibly be when our community needs us.”
The National Fallen Firefighters Foundation invites those who participate to share their #ShineYourLight4Firefighters story on social media as a way of thanking those who help keep their communities safe.
