WISCONSIN RAPIDS, WI (OnFocus) – An active police standoff situation resolved with the suspect being taken into custody Thursday in Wisconsin Rapids. Multiple Special Response Teams worked to peacefully resolve a situation with an armed barricaded subject.
Tactical teams from the Wood County Sheriff’s Department, Wisconsin Rapids Police Department, Marshfield Police Department and members of the Marathon County Sheriff’s Department assisted in the stand-off in the area of 7th Avenue and Fremont Street in Wisconsin Rapids. The suspect was wanted by Marathon County for shooting at a Deputy during a vehicle pursuit and was considered armed and very dangerous.
During the incident, the public was asked to avoid the area of 7th Avenue and Fremont Street as neighbors had already been evacuated.
“This is an isolated incident and we ask for your patience as we peacefully come to a resolution,” Deputy Chief Scott Dewitt said in a statement during the incident.
Everyone is safe and the situation is now resolved.
