Target announced it is making preparations for coronavirus (COVID-19) as customer demand for cleaning supplies remains high.
In a note to customers Monday, the company stated it would make its daily cleaning routines more rigorous, including cleaning touchscreens and checklanes at least every half hour.
The virus is thought to spread from close person-to-person contact rather than surfaces according to the CDC. However, it’s possible a person may get COVID-19 by touching a surface with the virus and then touching their mouth, nose, and eyes, but this is not considered the main way the virus spreads.
Target has also temporarily halted food sampling in stores due to “an abundance of caution,” Target CEO Brian Cornell stated.
The company is providing more staffing for Order Pickup and Drive Up services, which have been in demand.
It will also limit the number of certain items that customers can purchase so more can get the products they need.
“As demand for cleaning products, medicine, pantry stock-up items and more remains high, we’re sending more products to our stores as quickly as possible,” Cornell state. “And this weekend, we started to limit the number of key items per purchase.”
Target is encouraging sick team members to stay home and stated it is providing updated guidance to its employees so they can stay safe.
