Teacher Appreciation Week 2023
May 8-12 is recognized as Teacher Appreciation Week, which has been recognized nationally since 1980. The impetus for the Week came from First Lady Eleanor Roosevelt, who in 1953 persuaded Congress that there needed to be a specific day to honor teachers. In 1984, the first week of May was selected as National Teacher Appreciation Week.
