The Sports Geek Analyzes NFL Trade Deadline Deals: Fan Response on Social Media

The Sports Geek conducted a social sentiment analysis to gauge how NFL fans are responding on social media. By analyzing all of the tweets made about this trade, we were able to determine the general sentiment—whether positive or negative—around the trade.

Here’s the results of how NFL fans reacted to this trade:

The social media sentiment analysis shows that most NFL fans are quite happy with Preston Smith getting traded to the Steelers. With almost with almost 7,000 positive tweets (50% of all tweets) being made about Smith since the trade.

The Smith trade was also the 5th most discussed trade that happened before the trade deadline, with 14,000 tweets made about it.

Methodology

The Sports Geek used a social sentiment tool, Brandwatch, to analyze the sentiment around the trades that happened in Novemeber. Brandwatch analyzes all tweets made about a specific word (in this case, we used the players name) to determine whether that tweets is being positive or negative about that specific word we are analyzing.

All tweets that were made in the past 3 days were considered (4th November-6th November)
