Marathon County Public Health Department is confirming today that a third person has tested positive for COVID-19. The person is currently isolated at home. This person is not a contact from either of the first two reported cases.
County health officials are working to determine how the person may have become infected and who the person has had contact with since becoming infected. Health Department staff will be contacting individuals on Tuesday and Wednesday to gather more information and give advice to those who have been in contact with the person.
Anyone who has had close contact with the individual and is symptomatic will be isolated. People who have been in contact with the person and don’t have symptoms will be self-quarantined at home and asked to monitor themselves for symptoms. Persons should contact their health care provider if symptoms appear.
Symptoms of COVID-19 to watch for include: cough, fever, or shortness of breath or other respiratory symptoms. Please call the clinic or hospital before going; this helps protect others.
“We can’t contain the spread without the help of everyone. We need the community to help us help control the spread of COVID19,” said Judy Burrows, Public Information Officer for the Marathon County Health Department.
There are choices you can make for your own safety and the safety of others. Your defense to control the spread of COVID 19 is to:
- Stay home when sick, contact your health care provider as needed
- Only travel for essential reasons: to seek health care, for food, or other essential
products. - Limiting gatherings to the same people of 10 or less
- Avoid close contact with anyone with flu like symptoms
- Use good hygiene and infection control precautions
As of 11:00am March 30, 2020, there have been three Marathon County residents who have tested positive and 189 who have tested negative for COVID 19.
