Three local athletes are up for statewide awards from wissports.net for the past week.
Joey Goettl and Beau Gross are up for Football Player of the Week, and Auburndale Volleyball standout Georgi Schmutzer is up for PlayintheDells.com Athlete of the Week.
Joey Goettl led Marshfield to a 20-19 victory over the DC Everest Evergreens on Friday night. Goettl was involved in all three Marshfield touchdowns, two rushing, one passing, and made the interception that sealed the game as time expired.
Beau Gross lead the offensive threat in the Stratford Tigers 6-0 win over rival Edgar. Gross ran 22 times for 123 yards and the game’s only score, leading Stratford to an outright Marawood Conference title.
Georgi Schmutzer lead Auburndale to a nonconference sweep of rival Pittsville and then a perfect 4-0 record at the Edgar Volleyball Tournament. Schmutzer had 96 assists, 29 digs, and 12 kills for the week.
