Semi vs Train Accident near Hewitt
Town of Marshfield (OnFocus) – Shortly after 9 a.m. a train hit a semi near the crossing of Day Road and Yellowstone Drive East of Hewitt in the Town of Marshfield.
The semi was detached from the trailer upon impact and was carried down the tracks by the train engine about a quarter of a mile.
Approximately 30 minutes after the incident, the male driver was extracted from the vehicle and was alert as he was transported to Marshfield Medical Center. His condition is currently unknown.
Wood County Sheriff’s Deputies who were first on scene said the intersection-crossing will be closed for a few hours. Canadian National Railway will be removing the tractor from the tracks and Mid-State Truck Service will be removing the trailer from the intersection.
The 9-1-1 call was placed by Canadian National Railway around 9 a.m. At the time of the call, Wood County Sheriff’s Department, Marshfield Fire and Rescue, and Hewitt Area Volunteer Fire Department responded to the scene.
Update: 5:21 PM CST: Wood County Sheriff’s Department provided an update to OnFocus on the Train vs Semi Tractor incident that occurred Friday morning. The semi-tractor hauling farm equipment was north bound on Day Rd and failed to stop at the stop sign for the oncoming train that was heading east bound. The driver of the semi-tractor was transported to the area clinic for non-life threading injuries.
The cause of the incident is under investigation.
