Tri-County Baseball Coach Jay Wildner, a Closer Look: Baked or Fried?

The return to competition for Tri-County Baseball is led by Coach Jay Wildner, taking over the program after a pause due to numbers. To get a better idea about the coach has resurrected the program, we caught up with Wildner for our world-famous interview: Baked or Fried?

OnFocus: What sports did you play in high school?

Wildner: Soccer, basketball, and baseball

OnFocus: How do amateur sports benefit students, parents, and the community?

Wildner: Sports teach young people about self-discipline, commitment, and working with others in various roles and in various capacities.

OnFocus: How have you been involved in sports in your adult life?

Wildner: I have been coaching youth sports for decades.

OnFocus:  What do you enjoy about your involvement in athletics?

Wildner: I enjoy when a player puts on the work and sees the difference. I enjoy seeing everybody pulling together towards the same goal.

OnFocus: If there could only be one concession food in the world, what would you want it to be?

Wildner:  BBQ Brisket

OnFocus: What would you do with the money if you won 10 millions dollars in the lottery?

Wildner: Set up a foundation for a youth camp where kids with special needs could ride horses and fly fish for trout.

OnFocus: Is there something most people don’t know about you?

Wildner: I am an avid musician.

OnFocus: What job did you want when you were growing up?

Wildner: Prosecuting attorney.

OnFocus: What do you most enjoy watching on television?

Wildner: Baseball games.

OnFocus: How do amateur sports benefit students, parents, and the community?

Wildner:  See above

OnFocus: Who was an influential coach that has made a difference in your life?

Wildner:  The best coach I ever had was my baseball coach sophomore year. He got me into all of the nuances of the game and taught me how to throw many pitches.

OnFocus: How do you unwind and enjoy your free time?

Wildner: Fly fishing with my family – Sara (wife of 26 years) and Matt (age 22) and Andrew (20).

OnFocus: What would be an appropriate Super Hero nickname for you, and what would your powers be?

Wildner:  Still searching for a super power!

OnFocus: Who are your favorite athletes?

Wildner: Henry Aaron, Ray Nitschke, Oscar Robertson, Alex Bregman, Francisco Lindor, Sal Perez

OnFocus: Who is your role model(s)?

Wildner: My grandpa. He worked hard and loved his family.

OnFocus: Baked or Fried? If you could pick only one, which would it be?

Baked – Peach pies are usually baked!
