Dusty and Brenda Schlinsog are excited to celebrate 10 years of operating their business, Turn Pike Greenhouse.
Over the last decade, Turn Pike has grown from one small greenhouse to two greenhouses, a 4,000 square foot garden center, corn maze, pumpkin patch, and mums hotspot.
“I have a long history with in the horticulture industry, and with my experience growing plants and Brenda’s ability to design and create, it was natural for us to start a greenhouse,” said Dusty.
The greenhouse is built on Dusty’s grandmother’s home farm, where he grew up. Today, the couple continues the farming tradition by planting crops and raising Angus cattle along with operating the greenhouse.
“We wanted to find a way to keep the farm sustainable and in business, and running a garden center has helped do that,” he said.
The Schlinsogs are passionate about their business and love interacting with their customers.
“We love to grow things! Watching plants grow and the seasons change is truly enjoyable,” said Dusty. “Brenda can design truly classy pieces, and watching them develop into works of art is amazing as well.”
Unlike other greenhouses, the business remains open from April through November. In the spring, visitors can find a wide variety of annuals, hanging baskets, trees, shrubs, garden supplies and soil, creative pieces, and even fairy gardens. During the summer, Turn Pike goes beyond just perennials to also offer produce, honey, syrup, and more.
As the nights grow chilly, the greenhouse begins to roll out its selection of 6,000 fall mums. In the fall, families can also enjoy a day out by checking out the interactive corn maze, petting zoo, hayrides, kids corn pit, plus pumpkins, produce, and sweet corn. Small to large group reservations are taken for tours and events.
As they look to their future, the Schlinsogs hope to continue providing top notch service to both new and returning customers and grow quality plants to take home.
“In the future we may also wish to open for Christmas with poinsettias, sleigh rides, Christmas trees, decor and more,” said Dusty. “And of course, we hope to be able to grow the garden center to be able carry even more product.”
