BLAINE, MN (OnFocus) – The U19 Wisconsin Rapids Kickers earned second place at The Target USA Cup this past weekend in Blaine, MN. The Target USA Cup is the largest youth soccer tournament in the Western Hemisphere. The tournament hosts 13 countries, 17 states, has 50+ fields; 1,000+ teams, and 15,000+ players and is placed at the National Sports Center’s 860 acre campus.
The boys started the tournament on Friday, July 8th by defeating EBFC, Riverside, IL with a score of 3-1 and Keliix Intra, Minneapolis, MN 3-0. Saturday July 9th they were defeated by a team from Sweden (1-2), but came back Saturday evening defeating CFC Los Toros, Worthington, MN with a score of 4-0. On Sunday they advanced to the semi-finals, defeating West Lawn Soccer Club, Chicago, IL after a tied game which resulted in a shootout.
The championship game was a tough fight, The Kickers were ahead 3-1 at halftime, but were narrowly defeated with less than a minute to Gitchi Gimmi, Duluth, MN (4-5). Congratulations to the U19 Kickers soccer team for placing 2nd at such a competitively high level tournament.
The team’s accomplishments for the 2022 season include:
- Easter International Cup in Orlando, FL in April – 2nd Place
- Presidents Cup State of Wisconsin Champions in May
Wisconsin State Premier League – Undefeated & Champions with only 8 goals allowed the entire season - The Target USA Cup in July – 2nd Place
