MADISON, WI (OnFocus) – A hearing to determine the fate of the Edgewood High School football team resulted in the school’s appeal being denied by a judge on Friday.

Edgewood was undefeated in football this season but was booted from the playoffs after the WIAA determined the team had been using an ineligible player on its roster this season.

Edgewood promptly filed an appeal in the Wisconsin Circuit Court system and Dane Co. Judge, Jacob Frost ruled against the school in that appeal.

The court found that Edgewood was unlikely to succeed on the merits resulting in the denial of the temporary injunction.

Cameron Fein, the athlete in question, was reclassified by the school from a second-semester senior to a second-semester junior when he transferred in February of 2021. WIAA rules only allow a student-athlete eligibility for eight consecutive semesters.

As a result, Kewaskum, the team that Edgewood defeated 40-0 in the second round of the WIAA playoffs, will move on to play Columbus in the third round of the playoffs.

Additionally, Edgewood’s victories from this season have been ruled forfeits.
