The Wood County Sheriff’s Department received the following information this afternoon regarding the Hardwood Range Complex:
“This message serves as notice that the United States Air Force and the Wisconsin National Guard deem the Hardwood Range complex and the associated property a hazardous area. Those who enter the property for recreational purposes do so at their own risk. As a community partner, the Wisconsin National Guard felt obligated to inform you that the organization deems the area hazardous.
The safety of the general public and citizens who wish to use the property for recreational purposes is our primary concern, and while the Wisconsin National Guard does not advise leaving the roadway, those who enter the property do so at their own risk. The property is considered hazardous due to the possibility that unexploded or inert ordnance and munitions remain on the range.
The Wisconsin Air National Guard’s Hardwood Range complex has been open to the public for many years for the purposes of hunting, and we regret any inconveniences this may cause to the public, and we appreciate the community’s continued support and flexibility. This letter simply serves as notice of the potential hazards of accessing the property.
