Unity Man Identified in Clark County Crash on STH 29

A 1-vehicle crash on March 5 resulted in a death of a Unity man on STH 29.

The crash occurred at 7:14 p.m. near CTH P, resulting in the closure of eastbound lanes. The investigation by Clark County Sheriff’s Office indicated that the vehicle lost control on slippery roads.

The SUV entered the median and overturned, ejecting the driver and coming to rest in the eastbound lane of traffic, according to a release. The driver did not appear to have worn a seatbelt. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

Owen Withee Fire Department and Ambulance, Central Station 2, Clark County Sheriff’s Office, and the Clark County Coroner responded to the scene.

The name of the driver was identified Monday as Ronald Voelker, age 63.

Maurina-Schilling Funeral Home is assisting with the funeral.

Ronald L. Voelker, age 63, of Unity, passed away on Thursday, March 5, 2020 from a car accident near Owen.

Friends and family are welcome from 4:00 pm until 8:00 pm on Wednesday March 11,2020 at the Maurina-Schilling Funeral Home in Abbotsford. A celebration of life will be at Rowdy’s Bar in Unity at a later date.

Ronald was born on August 29, 1956 in Marshfield, the son of Stanley and Lois (Morrison) Voelker.

He graduated from Abbotsford High School in 1975. After high school he enlisted in the US Army, after his honorable discharge he worked at the IGA in Neillsville as a meat cutter until 1979, he then worked at Abbyland in Abbotsford for 15 years and then at Conagra in Edgar until the shut down.

After the closing of the plant, he worked at Hurds in Medford for 10 years and then as a meat cutter at Pinter’s in Dorchester for about a year and then at Midwest Extrusions in Withee until his retirement.

Fishing was his true passion in the summer. Ronald was one of the Rowdy Boys from Unity. Ron enjoyed DJing for Rowdy Boys Entertainment, and watching the Packers.

Ron is survived by his children: Robert (Tami) Voelker of Edgar and Melissa (Neal) Carpenter of Loyal; five grandchildren: Tiana, Jada, Eric, Dakota and Logan. He is further survived by his siblings: David Voelker, Steve (Debbie) Voelker, Tammy (Mike) Sheets, Nancy (Robin) Weiss, Lori (Donald) Drinka, Ann Voelker, Jamie (Jessica) Voelker and Amy Voelker and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers: Donny Voelker and Kevin Voelker and a sister: Sara Voelker.
