Wood County Sheriff’s Department Shares Details
AUBURNDALE, WI (OnFocus) – On November 18, 2024, the Wood County Sheriff’s Department responded to Auburndale Elementary School in the Village of Auburndale, Wood County, Wisconsin, regarding a male subject with a firearm. The individual was confronted by a school staff member before law enforcement arrived. The subject was later identified as Alden Jensen, age 17.
By the time law enforcement made contact with Jensen, he was no longer armed. It was discovered that Jensen had taken the firearm to a nearby residence. During the investigation, Jensen admitted to having an AR-style .22 caliber rifle in the trunk of a vehicle. He stated that he was attempting to remove the firearm from school property and tried to conceal it. A school staff member observed Jensen concealing the firearm and saw him leave school grounds, walking toward Auburndale High School.
A search of Jensen’s vehicle revealed ammunition, and the firearm was recovered at the nearby residence. Jensen, who is currently enrolled as an online student in the Auburndale School District, explained that the firearm was in his vehicle because he had been teaching firearms safety to a child over the weekend.
Jensen was taken into custody and is being held at the Wood County Jail for possession of a firearm in a school zone.
It is important to note that no threats were made, and at no time was there a reported danger to students or the community.
The Wood County Sheriff’s Department was assisted in this incident by the Marshfield Police Department, Pittsville Police Department, Marathon County Sheriff’s Department, Portage County Sheriff’s Department, and Wisconsin State Patrol.
This incident serves as a reminder that firearms are not permitted on school grounds unless carried by a sworn law enforcement officer.
