Update Names Released – Three Dead in Traffic Crash on Hwy 29

Good Samaritan Struck by Oncoming Traffic

Township of Frankfort (OnFocus) On Saturday, April 16th, 2022 at approximately 11:29 pm there was a two-vehicle collision on Eastbound State Rd 29 approximately 1 mile West of State Rd 97 in the Township of Frankfort, Marathon County.

When Deputies arrived on the scene three individuals were deceased, and there were no surviving occupants from either vehicle.  An uninvolved motorist stopped and left his vehicle in an attempt to render aid.  The individual was struck, as a pedestrian, by another vehicle traveling past the original scene.  The male pedestrian was transported to a local area hospital for non-life-threatening injuries.

Assisting the Marathon County Sheriff’s Office were the Edgar Police Department, the City of Marathon Police Department, the Athens Police Department, Marathon County Medical Examiner’s Office, Marathon County Highway Department, and Athens Fire Department.

The crash is being investigated by the Marathon County Crash Reconstruction Team, and is ongoing: however, it is known the crash occurred during hours of darkness on an unlit section of roadway.

The driver of one involved vehicle was 38-year-old Jennifer A. Krug from Medford. The driver of the second vehicle that was involved was 21-year-old Spohie K. Sullivan from the Appleton area, and her passenger was 20 year Audrie R. Stephens also from the Appleton area.

The Marathon County Sheriff’s Office offers its condolences to the Sullivan, Stephens and Krug families for their loss.
