MARSHFIELD, WI (OnFocus) – The University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point at Marshfield is bringing the beloved musical Godspell to life on stage, with performances running from Jan. 31 through Feb. 6 at the Helen Connor Laird Theatre.
Written by award-winning composer and lyricist Stephen Schwartz (Wicked, Pippin), Godspell is a vibrant retelling of the Gospel according to Matthew, using music, humor, and storytelling to explore themes of kindness, love, and community. Under the direction of Donna Thompson, this updated rendition infuses contemporary elements while maintaining the heart of the original production.
The show follows a small group of individuals who help Jesus Christ recount different parables through creative storytelling, comedy, and an eclectic blend of musical styles ranging from pop to vaudeville. The performance builds to a moving depiction of the Last Supper and Crucifixion, leaving audiences with a message of hope and unity.
Cast includes Brian Clark as Jesus and Nat Bremer as John the Baptist/Judas.
