“One Million Trees” Initiative Grant Money Helps Fund Project

VESPER, WI (OnFocus) – The Village of Vesper is looking a little bit greener! The municipality was chosen as one of the twelve communities in Wisconsin to receive a generous grant through Trees Forever, as part of their ambitious “One Million Trees” initiative. The Village was awarded nearly $5,000.00 to enhance the greenery of their community by planting 50 trees at the Recreation Park.

“The Village of Vesper, like most small municipalities, doesn’t really have the budget for projects like this,” said Greg Zimmermann, Village of Vesper Trustee. “We are always looking for different opportunities such as grants. When I came across this grant last summer, I immediately saw the impact it could have on the community, so I quickly contacted the team at Trees Forever to start working on our application to make sure we had a very strong entry.”

This initiative not only fosters a greener environment but also underscores the commitment of the Village of Vesper towards sustainability and community enhancement. The planting event took place on May 15, 2024, with nearly 100 volunteers contributing over 260 hours of their time and effort throughout the entire project.

“This tree planting event will leave a lasting impact not just for the residents within the Village of Vesper but for everyone in the neighboring communities who visit Vesper,” said Zimmermann. “These trees will have a positive environmental impact as well as beautify our public green spaces.”

The planting event was a collaborative effort, bringing together the Village and various local volunteer groups, including Auburndale High School, Lincoln High School, Rudolph THINK Academy elementary school, and several others.

“Turning this planting into a community volunteer and educational event with a number of volunteer and school groups is awesome,” added Zimmermann. “It was a great day, and we are so grateful for everyone who came out to give us a hand. We are especially thankful to Alliant Energy and Trees Forever for the opportunity to put on this great event.”
