MARSHFIELD – Marshfield rallied from a four-run deficit in the first inning to take the lead, but couldn’t hold on and dropped a Wisconsin Valley Conference baseball game to Wausau East 7-5 on Thursday at Jack Hackman Field.
Two days after the Tigers routed East 15-1, they committed four errors that led to four unearned runs in the loss.
With the loss, Marshfield drops out of contention for the Wisconsin Valley Conference title. The Tigers are now 12-11 overall and 6-4 in the WVC. East improves to 8-6 and 4-6 in the conference.
East scored four times in the first inning against Marshfield starter Logan Schreiner. Three hits, including an RBI double by Forrest Kronberger, and two Tigers’ errors led to the big inning.
Marshfield rallied to take the lead. Ryan Krueger led off the first with a triple and scored on a groundout by Brant Bohman to make it 4-1.
The Tigers scored four times in the second inning to take the lead as Bohman had a big two-RBI single in the frame.
East regained the lead at 6-5 with two runs in the fourth, and added another run in the sixth while pitchers Ben Liss and Kronberger held the Tigers scoreless over their final five at-bats.
Andrew Heinzen had three hits and scored twice for the Lumberjacks.
Krueger had a double, a triple and scored twice, Bohman finished with three RBIs, and Jacob Earll and Riley Boushack each had two hits for Marshfield.
