Wausau Shooter Identified

The suspect who shot three victims at Pine Grove Cemetery in Wausau is identified as Henry West, 64, of Schofield. West is scheduled for a court appearance Friday afternoon.

The shooting took place at the cemetery on Thursday, October 3. At 8:30 a.m., Wausau Police responded to Pine Grove Cemetery.

One victim was found dead at the scene and two others were transported to Wausau Aspirus Hospital for treatment. Officials declined to comment on the condition of those two victims. The victims were employees of the cemetery or else related to an employee.

Callers reported that a possible suspect was fleeing to the east side of the cemetery. Officers and deputies arrived and establish a perimeter. West was quickly located and taken into custody without further incident.

In a press conference, the Wausau Chief of Police revealed that the male suspect is lived on Fullmer Street and was a former employee of the cemetery.

West used a handgun, which was found and recovered in the area of the cemetery.

At 8:14 a.m., Everest Metro Police responded to a garage fire on Fullmer Street at the apartment complex where West lived. Police stated the two incidents are connected and the fire is being treated as suspicious.

While on scene, there was a report of a gas leak in a nearby building. Precautionary measures were taken and residents of the apartment complexes were evacuated.
