OnFocus – This weekend at Weiler’s Convenience Store’s North Central location, a customer found $60.00 on the floor and turned the cash over to staff.

Using security footage, manager Trisha Mayer was able to obtain a license plate for the woman who had dropped the money. Mayer contacted Marshfield Police Department, who then contacted Spencer Police Department because the woman had a Spencer address.

On Tuesday, the woman was overjoyed to be reunited with her $60. Though it may not seem like much, Mayer said it’s these acts of kindness that make the world a little bit better.

“We always make an effort to get anything found back to their owners,” said Mayer. “I commend our staff for always being so honest when items are found (especially cash). We usually succeed due to our camera system or even just recognizing customers. If we ever really can’t figure out who the owner is of any money found, it goes in the MAPS donation can.”

She added that being a longtime locally-owned business, there is a connection to the community and keeping lost cash would not be right.

“We do feel connected to our customers. We get to know so many of them,” she said. “I love when people say ‘it’s so nice to know there are still honest people out there.'”

She also commended the local police departments for their involvement.

“Did the police departments have to deal with this? No. They did because they are decent human beings,” she said.
