Preview: Marshfield Common Council Meeting on December 17, 2024

MARSHFIELD, WI (OnFocus) – The City of Marshfield Common Council will convene on Tuesday, December 17, 2024, at 6 p.m. in the Council Chambers at City Hall. The meeting agenda includes several items that impact the community.

Key Agenda Items:

  1. Braem Park Pickleball Court Lights Project
The Council will consider authorizing bids for installing lights at the Braem Park pickleball courts, which were built in 2024. While lighting was excluded from the original project due to budget constraints, provisions were made for future installation. Thanks to a generous $80,000 contribution from Visit Marshfield, the City is now prepared to move forward with light poles, fixtures, wiring, and controls.
  2. Braem Park Softball Field Reconstruction
Another Braem Park initiative is on the table, with the Council set to discuss seeking bids for a comprehensive softball field reconstruction. The $295,000 project includes replacing the field, fence, light poles, dugouts, bleachers, benches, and backstop, along with upgrades to concrete, asphalt, and infield materials. The budget also accounts for architectural and engineering services and direct purchases like trash cans and benches.
  3. Communications Department Strategic Plan (2025-2027)
The Communications Department will present its new three-year strategic plan. This roadmap focuses on enhancing the connection between local government and the community through education, information sharing, and promotion using various media channels.
  4. Public Fire Protection Charge Methodology
The Council will review Resolution No. 2024-49, which proposes changing how public fire protection charges are calculated. The new method would base calculations on water infrastructure entering a structure, rather than its square footage.
  5. Funding Confirmation for MACCI Business Development Director
The Marshfield Area Chamber of Commerce & Industry (MACCI) will request confirmation of a previously approved commitment to fund the Business Development Director position. The Council had allocated these funds under motion CC24-285, with the hiring planned for 2025.
  6. City Strategic Plan and Spring Referendum Discussion
City Administrator Steve Barg will discuss plans to develop a new strategic plan for the City beginning in 2025. Additionally, he will update the Council on the latest developments for the spring 2025 referendum, which seeks to hire two additional firefighters/paramedics.

Residents are encouraged to attend the meeting or tune in to stay informed about these projects and proposals that shape Marshfield’s future.
