MARSHFIELD, WI (OnFocus) – If you heard a loud boom or rumble in the skies last night, you’re not alone — and there’s a clear explanation.

The 115th Fighter Wing of the Wisconsin Air National Guard is currently conducting evening training flights this week, from Monday, March 31 through Thursday, April 3. These exercises are a scheduled shift from their typical daytime operations, extending into the evening hours and concluding at approximately 9:30 p.m. each night.

These training flights are a critical part of maintaining the readiness and operational capability of our Airmen, ensuring they are fully prepared to respond in all conditions — including after dark. The sound of jets flying overhead or the occasional sonic boom may be startling to residents, but officials emphasize that all flights are conducted with safety and community consideration as top priorities.

“We remain committed to minimizing the impact on local communities,” the 115th Fighter Wing said in a statement. “We follow established flight paths specifically designed to reduce noise over residential areas.”

If you’re interested in staying informed about changes to the unit’s flight schedule, you can sign up for email or text notifications through the Wisconsin Department of Military Affairs. This service allows residents to receive updates about any deviations from the normal flying schedule.
