Marshfield Columbus Catholic Groundbreaking Ceremony

Marshfield, WI (May 23, 2024): Excitement is building at Marshfield Columbus Catholic School (CCS) as they celebrate a major contribution towards their new Educational and Athletic Center project. The groundbreaking ceremony for the facility was held this morning at 9:00 am at the build site.

The Fieldhouse Campaign has reached 89% of its ambitious $10.5 million goal, thanks in part to a significant donation from Wheelers Family Auto Group. The Marshfield-based dealership, celebrating their 60th anniversary this year, stepped forward to support the project.

“We made this contribution because of the economic impact to our community,” explained Mary Jo Wheeler-Schueller, a representative of the Wheeler family. “Marshfield doesn’t have natural resources, but we are centrally located. This complex can be a resource that draws teams from all over the state, bringing families together and keeping kids active.”

Daniel Wheeler echoed his sister’s sentiments. “We’ve been part of this community for over 60 years, and we want to invest back in the people who have supported us. This project will have a positive impact on students for generations to come.”

CCS Athletic Director Joe Konieczny expressed his enthusiasm for the project’s progress. “This state-of-the- art facility will enhance the overall well-being and educational experience for our students,” he said. “We are excited to move forward and make the most of this incredible space.”

John Spiros, a member of Our Lady of Peace (OLP) parish, added to the community spirit. “This is an exciting time in Marshfield,” he said. “Seeing the collaboration between CCS and OLP to make this project a reality is fantastic. I look forward to celebrating the ribbon cutting when the fieldhouse is complete.”

The Educational and Athletic Center will be a multi-purpose facility connecting Columbus Catholic High/Middle School with Our Lady of Peace Intermediate Schools. The impressive space will boast:

  • Four full practice courts with portable bleachers
  • Four new classrooms to accommodate growing enrollment
  • A fitness center
  • Batting cages
  • Locker rooms
  • A referee room
  • Concession stand
  • Bathrooms
  • A stage for events and performances
  • Storage areas

The Fieldhouse is envisioned as a hub for athletic practices, physical education classes, tournaments, and a variety of events, including the popular CCS Alpine Holiday. It will also be available for use by the parish and the Diocese of La Crosse.

With the support of generous donors like the Wheelers Family Auto Group, the dream of a new Educational and Athletic Center is becoming a reality for Columbus Catholic School.
