Whitefish Bay Defends WIAA Division 2 Gymnastics Crown

WISCONSIN RAPIDS, Wis.  –  Whitefish Bay won its membership-leading 12th team championship by capturing Division 2 title at the 2022 State Gymnastics Championship at Wisconsin Lincoln High School Friday.

The Blue Dukes won their second straight title and their seventh in the last eight seasons, compiling a score of 143.15. Mount Horeb finished runner-up with a score of 142.951, and Nicolet was third at 138.65.

Cassi Hansen of Nicolet was the champion in the all-around competition with a four-event score of  36.566 after placing fifth last year. Sydney Stoenner of Mount Horeb was runner up, scoring a 36.418, and Anneh Britz of Whitefish Bay was third with a score of 36.400.

Ella Hemker of Sparta won the vault competition with a score of 9.383 after a runner-up finish in 2021. Stoenner was second with a score of 9.217, moving up from 15th place a year ago.

Gabby Dixon of Elkhorn won the gold medal in the uneven parallel bars with a routine scoring a 9.267. Hansen was second the event to improve on last season’s third-place finish.

Emily Craker of Reedsburg scored a 9.533 on the balance beam to earn the championship. She edged Lexie Weier of Mount Horeb, who was runner-up with a score of 9.500.

A pair of Whitefish Bay gymnasts were the top two finishers in the floor exercise. Kate Graham earned the gold medal with a routine scoring 9.367 after placing fifth at last year’s State championships, and Anneh Britz earned the silver medal after placing 13th last season.

The 2022 State Gymnastics Championships resume Saturday, March 5 at 10:30 a.m. with the Division 1 team and individual championships.
