WIAA Board of Control December Meeting Summary

STEVENS POINT, Wis. – The Wisconsin Interscholastic Athletic Association Board of Control approved the site for the State Boys and Girls Lacrosse Championships, and voted to establish an ad-hoc committee to examine season lengths, game maximums and coaching contact at its December meeting today.

The Board supported an agreement that identifies Bank of Sun Prairie Stadium at Ashley Field in Sun Prairie, Wis., as the venue of the State Boys and Girls Lacrosse Championships from 2024-2026. The first State Lacrosse Championships will be held Saturday, June 8, 2024.

The composition and timetable for the formation of an ad-hoc committee to study length of all seasons, season game maximums in all sports and expanding coaching contact will be determined at a future date.

The Board also took action in support of a 2024 football-only conference realignment fast-track recommendation that removes Milwaukee School of Excellence from the Capitol Conference, effective next fall.  Other action items approved by the Board include the acceptance of 2022-23 independent audit report provided by Hawkins Ash CPAs, as well as the conventional general fund and deferred liability fund monthly reports.

The executive staff provided information to the Board on the fall sports report from the Competitive Balance Classification Committee, a proposed extension of the NFHS Network rights agreement and possible Constitutional amendments. The Board was also informed on the continued efforts to recruit and retain licensed sport officials, a letter of support for Dr. Tim McGuine’s research following a report at the October Board meeting, and creating awareness of upcoming membership elections and the Feb. 24, 2024, deadline to declare candidacy.

The Board also received liaison reports from Dan Rossmiller of the Wisconsin Association of School Boards and Eric Plitzuweit of the Wisconsin Athletic Directors Association.

The WIAA, as defined by its Constitution, is a voluntary, unincorporated, and nonprofit organization. The membership oversees interscholastic athletic programs for 515 senior high schools and 43 junior high/middle level schools in its membership.
