Wisconsin Among Top 10 States With the Highest Aggravated Assault Rate Among Boyfriends and Girlfriends

A new study reveals that Wisconsin has the sixth-highest aggravated assault rate among boyfriends and girlfriends in the U.S.

The research by Las Vegas injury law firm, Ladah Injury & Car Accident Lawyers, analyzed aggravated assault incidents (classified as Girlfriend/Boyfriend) reported from 2020 to 2024 across U.S. states. The total incidents were compared to each state’s population to determine incidents per 100,000 residents and identify the states with the highest levels of relationship violence.

Wisconsin takes the sixth place with 43.4 incidents per 100,000 residents, approximately 81% higher than the national average of 24. Between 2020 and 2024, the Badger State recorded a total of 12,864 such assaults, which translates to about 2,573 annually.

Looking at the study, Ramzy Ladah, spokesperson of Ladah Injury & Car Accident Lawyers, commented,

“Wisconsin has a notably high aggravated assault rate among boyfriends and girlfriends, which means those living here should be aware of the added risks in intimate relationships.

“Individuals can proactively ensure safer dating environments by familiarizing themselves with local support networks and crisis hotlines, seeking counseling when needed, and engaging with community organizations dedicated to preventing intimate partner violence.”

The study was conducted by Ladah Law Firm, a personal injury law firm that protects the rights of individuals who have suffered personal injuries from a wide range of incidents.

Methodology

The number of aggravated assaults (Girlfriend/Boyfriend) reported over the last five years (2020-2024) was measured against the population of each state, obtained from the U.S. Census Bureau, to calculate the rate per 100,000 residents. This approach allowed us to identify which states experience the highest frequency of assaults in intimate partner contexts.
