Marshfield Community Television to be Awarded at The Best of the Midwest Media Fest 2017

Wisconsin Community Media is announcing the 2017 Best of the Midwest Media Fest award winners. Award-winning producers and their shows will be honored at the Best of the Midwest Media Fest Banquet and Show at the Holiday Inn Milwaukee Riverfront on Thursday evening, April 6. The event begins at 5:00 p. m. with a reception and is open to the public.

WCM has sponsored the fest since 1998. “The fest was created to showcase great local access television programming and to provide feedback to producers on their craft,” said Mary Cardona, executive director of WCM.

MCTV Program “Emerald Ash Borer Update” with Haas Tree Care, Achievement Award Winner.

Typically, two-thirds of the programs entered are produced by professionals; the rest are produced by amateur community producers. To enter, a video program must have been produced and/or distributed through the facilities of a community media center and premiered on a cable access television channel or its website the previous year. LPFM programs must have been produced locally during the previous year.

Since becoming a regional fest in 2013, entries have been regularly coming from Illinois, Iowa, Minnesota, and North Dakota, as well as Wisconsin. The deadline for entering is early January.

“All year-long local amateur producers and community-based professionals produce shows that contribute to the life of their communities by covering events, talking about local issues, and showcasing local talent. Once a year we take the time to recognize their contribution and we are very honored to be able to recognize their work,” said Cardona.

All tickets are $45 and can be purchased through the wisconsincommunitymedia.com website. The evening begins at 5 p.m. with the Exhibitors Reception and is followed by the 6:30 p.m. Banquet and Show featuring clips from the top Excellence Award entries, Best in Show Award winners, and the Significant Community Program.
