OnFocus – This week is National Farm Safety and Health Week and the Wisconsin Department of Transportation (DOT) is reminding drivers to slow down and be patient when approaching farm vehicles.

“Farmers are busy across Wisconsin preparing to safely harvest the crops we all depend on,” they said in a statement. “Please slow down and be patient when approaching farm vehicles.”

When legally passing, drivers are reminded to consider the possibility of the farm vehicle turning left into a roadway or field entrance. To enhance safety and visibility, farmers should use appropriate lights and signage.

In 2019, there were 165 farm vehicle-related crashes in the state, resulting in 53 injuries and three fatalities.
