OnFocus – The Wisconsin Rapids Fire Department issued a statement via Facebook post on Wednesday thanking area departments that came to help battle the Verso Paper Mill fire.
“WRFD would like to again thank our mutual aid departments that spent five hours with us extinguishing the fire,” the post said. “A special Thanks to all the VERSO Employees that were instrumental in the mitigation of this incident.”
Assisting departments were: Port Edwards Fire Department, Grand Rapids Fire Department, Nekoosa Fire Department, Rudolph Fire Department, Vesper Fire Department, Biron Fire Department, Saratoga First Responders, Nekoosa Ambulance Service, Wisconsin Rapids Police Department and Wood County Dispatch.
In total, 60 firefighters were on scene.
There are no further updates on the origin of the fire or extent of the damage at this time.
