OnFocus – DANE COUNTY – Emergency responders face significant risks when stopped along highways – especially when they’re outside their vehicle to assist at incident scenes.
The State Patrol’s “Law of the Month” reminds motorists to move over or slow down for emergency responders and other roadside workers.

Today, Wisconsin State Patrol shared a trooper’s rear dash cam video from June 10, 2020, which captured an out-of-control pick-up truck grazing the trooper as he jumped out of the way and avoided more serious injuries. The incident took place along southbound I-39/90/94, near Windsor.

“The crashes occurred during a period of heavy rainfall and illustrate the need for drivers to slow down and always travel at a speed appropriate for conditions,” said Captain Jason Zeeh of the State Patrol’s Southwest Region.

The incident is also a powerful reminder of the hazards emergency responders face every day as they work to help others. The trooper was released from the hospital the same day and the Dane County Sheriff’s Office investigated the crash.
