WISCONSIN RAPIDS, WI (OnFocus) – Beginning Monday, March 24, visitors and employees to the Wood County Courthouse will notice a significant change in access. The facility’s new main entrance will officially open, and the current entrance will be permanently closed.

Temporary signage will be placed around the area to help direct traffic to the updated entry point. Officials are encouraging all visitors to plan accordingly and allow for extra time when arriving, as the new layout and security process may require a short adjustment period.

“We appreciate everyone’s cooperation and patience as we work through this transition,” officials stated in a release.

This change follows a major milestone in the county’s ongoing facility upgrades. On Friday, March 22, the Wood County Sheriff’s Department completed the relocation of all inmates from the old jail to the new facility. The multi-hour operation was carried out smoothly and without incident, thanks to the coordination and efforts of the Sheriff’s Department staff.

With the new jail now in operation, the next phase of the project includes bringing back inmates currently housed out of county and proceeding with the demolition of the old jail. Plans are also in place to develop new parking facilities around the Courthouse, which will further improve access and convenience for the public.

For updates on construction and access changes, residents are encouraged to follow official county communication channels.
