DA Lambert Provides Update on Criminal Complaint

Wisconsin Rapids (OnFocus) – Wood County District Attorney Craig Lambert has officially received reports related to the criminal complaint investigation filed against City of Marshfield Mayor Bob McManus. The investigation was conducted by Portage County officials.

In August, a criminal complaint was referred to Wood County Sheriff’s Department regarding criminal misconduct in public office with Bob McManus identified as the subject of the complaint. Due to the nature of the complaint and that McManus is an elected official in Wood County, the investigation was referred to an outside agency.

Portage County Sheriff’s Department conducted the investigation of the criminal complaint. The department has been serving Portage County since 1842 and has a staff of 108 full-time employees, led by Sheriff Mike Lukas. The investigation concluded its report in early November.

Portage County District Attorney Louis Molepske reviewed the report prior to sending it back to Wood County. DA Molepske said his role was to assist the Portage County Sheriff’s Department in the investigation. His role was not that of a special prosecutor in the criminal compliant filed that identified Bob McManus as the subject of the complaint.

DA Craig Lambert is expected to make his decision this week as to whether charges should be filed against Mayor Bob McManus.

At this time, the complaint and the report have not been made available.
